TIME DETECTIVES ARCHAEOLOGY CAMPS
Calling all Young Indies! Leave the bullwhip at home and get your trowels, brushes, and tape measures ready. At Time Detectives, campers broaden their worldview by journeying back in time to visit ancient civilization’s greatest empires. Becoming cultural private eyes, they’ll solve age-old mysteries, explore other worlds, and get down and dirty digging for clues. Each camp kicks off with a mock archaeology dig and concludes with a Friday Feast of cultural cuisine. In between, we’ll explore ancient buildings, star lore, mythology, travel and trade, and more.
NEW! Viking Voyage
June 2 – 6
Become one of the most feared and beloved peoples of the ancient world. Campers will be whisked back to the days of yore where they will sail treacherous seas to explore and raid unknown lands. Watch out for mischievous Loki, learn just how to train your dragon, and prove yourself a heroic warrior to seal your destiny of Valkyrie and Valhalla in the afterlife.
June 9 – 13
Love your mummy? This camp’s for you. With Anubis as your guide, learn about the Book of the Dead and journey to the underworld. After making an authentic life-size grass boat, campers will visit the Waters of Osiris, Lake of Fire, and Sandy Realm of Sokar in their exploration of ancient Egypt’s greatest mysteries. Photos
June 16 – 20
Become a demigod á la Percy Jackson! Armed with special powers and prophecies, campers will train with Spartan warriors and compete in ancient Olympic games. Of course, it takes more than brawn to outwit sirens, lotus eaters, and a giant cyclops. Visit the temple of Athena and win favor of the fickle gods to gain your seat on Mt. Olympus. Photos
June 23 – 27
Think you got what it takes to make it in the Coliseum? Thumbs down, you’re out! Featuring all the luxury and opulence of Rome, along with its brutal warfare and sport, campers will visit the grand baths, dine like emperors, and participate in epic battles. There are even rumors of a slave revolt through the empire -shh! Photos
MOUND MAYHEM WILDERNESS CAMPS
Boldly go where no man has gone before. (Well, at least, where man rarely goes anymore.) Trail blazers wanted for two weeks of fun and fearless outdoor adventure. Must be willing to explore, get dirty and have a blast. At Mound Mayhem, kids will interact with nature in ways they never thought possible. Learning how to use its plentiful resources, campers will come to appreciate the wonders of our own backyard and become better stewards of our natural resources and planet’s future.
July 14 – 18
Survival fans rejoice! Angel Mounds’ signature camp is back! Learn to live off the land like the ancients of Angel Mounds and test your skills in a week of outdoor excursions and challenges. Who knew you could eat cattails? We did. Nature’s bounty is plenty and so are the activities in this camp, which include archery, shelter building, tie dye, hikes, and even a turkey cooked in the ground. Photos
July 21 – 25
Let the real games begin! Mound Mayhem X-TREME combines ancient and futuristic knowledge in an all out challenge of survival. Gullet full from the finest fare and armed with special skills in hunting, gathering, fire making and more, you’ll enter an arena where anything goes. Perform well, impress the judges, and who knows? You may even gain a real advantage. (Healing card, camouflage, or special abilities, anyone?) (Campers need not have attended Mound Mayhem to participate in this camp.) Photos
Not for the faint of heart, Time Detectives and Wilderness Camps are an intensive immersion experience, meaning campers will spend time off the beaten path, getting dirty and being active. Depending on registrant nos., each camp will include a field trip. All activities are facilitated by Angel Mounds’ own seasoned staff with over 30 years combined experience.
