With new and improved events planned for 2010 at Angel Mounds, we invite you to come out and experience them for yourself. Featuring a variety of events for all walks of life, Angel Mounds is sure to have something for everyone!
Please keep in mind that the events listed below are simply the ones that have been planned as of now. Be sure to check back periodically, as we routinely add events throughout the year.
Nov. 14, 2009 - Feb. 5, 2010: "Holiday Show" - The Tri-State Art Guild returns back for its second annual "Winter Show," a winter inspired art display.
December 14, 2009: "Holiday Party" - In celebration of the Friends of Angel Mounds and all of the volunteers who have donated their time throughout the year, Angel Mounds State Historic Site will be hosting a Holiday Party to show their gratitude. Open to all FOAM members and volunteers, the party begins at 7:00pm.
Dec. 21, 2009 - Jan. 25, 2010:
"Animals of North America: The Charlotte Skelton Collection" - An exhibit showcasing a variety of animal mounts originating from all over North America. Named for its benefactor, a highly talented taxidermist, this exhibit contains mounts ranging from Texas all the way to Alaska. Highlights include deer, a black bear, birds, coyotes, pheasants, a badger, a wolverine, rattlesnakes, and much more.
Jan. 11 - March 19, 2010:
"Toys Through Time" - Angel Mounds State Historic Site will be displaying a unique collection of toys on site for only a short period of time. The collection includes items that date from the 1930s all the way up to the 1980s. An exclusive display, this is a collection you should not miss!
Feb. 7 - March 26, 2010: "Abstracts Show"- The Abstracts Show is an exhibit put together by the Tri-State Art Guild and hosted by Angel Mounds State Historic Site. The theme of the exhibit revolves around an abstract theme. Tri-State Art Guild
March 27 - 28:"4 Winds" Native American Fine Arts Bazaar - (See Home Page for more info.) Angel Mounds is hosting its annual Native American fine art show and sale. Event hours are 9:00am - 5:00pm. Opening Reception is to be held March 26th at 6:00 PM and will feature an art auction and wine tasting by Blue Heron Winery. See Photos!
March 28 – May 21:"Emotion Show" - An exhibit revolving around invoking and evoking emotions, the "Emotion Show" is sponsored by the Tri-State Art Guild and hosted here at Angel Mounds.Tri-State Art Guild
April 17:Flint Knapping Class - Reknowned expert Larry Kinsella will be teaching a class on flint knapping to anyone who wishes to learn this unique and ingenious trade. All safety equipment, tools, and materials will be provided. The class will run from 12:00pm - 4:00pm and costs $30. Reservations and payment due by April 12. All participants must be 14 years and older and must wear long pants to prevent injury to the legs. A $5 discount will be offered to all FOAM members and students.
April 17:"The Big Read: Sun, Stone, and Shadows" - As a participating organization in "The Big Read," an initiative by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library will be hosting a public reading of "The Medicine Man", a short story from the anthology, "Sun, Stone, and Shadows," which features a collection of 20 Mexican short stories. The event begins at 2:00 pm at Angel Mounds State Historic Site and is free and open to the public.
May 14: Archaeology C.S.I. Day - (School Program Only) Archaeology C.S.I. Day is an event designed for 6th and 7th grade school children to experience “Cultural Scene Investigation” as archaeologists and representatives from several institutions demonstrate and discuss aspects of the science and history of archaeology. May 23 – July 23:"Really BIG Show" and "Mini's Show"- The Really Big Show and Mini's Show are exhibits put together by the Tri-State Art Guild and hosted by Angel Mounds State Historic Site. The theme of the exhibits revolve around large-scale and small-scale artwork. Tri-State Art Guild
June 21 - 25 and June 28 - July 2: "Camp Mound Mayhem" - Angel Mounds Summer Day Camp is back! Camp Mound Mayhem is a fun and exciting camp that offers kids a week's worth of games and activities. Some of the highlights for this year will be: hiking, flint knapping, archery, tie-dye, and event a special "Mississippian" Feast Friday that features a turkey baked in an earth oven! Registration is $110 per child and includes a free t-shirt and snacks. Special rates are offered for early registration, multiple registrations, and F.O.A.M. members. Camp hours are 9:00am - 4:00pm, though early drop-off and late pick-up options are available.See Photos!
July 12 - 16: "Time Detectives" - Angel Mounds Summer Day Camp is proud to present a thrilling new day camp! Time Detectives is a thrilling and adventurous day camp that allows kids the unique experience of being a REAL archaeologist for the week! Activities include: excavations, artifact sifting, games, and activities focusing on archaeology from all over the world. Registration is $110 per child and includes a free t-shirt and snacks. Special rates are offered for early registration, multiple registrations, and F.O.A.M. members. Camp hours are 9:00am - 4:00pm, though early drop-off and late pick-up options are available.
July 25 – Oct. 1:"Light Show" - The Light Show is an exhibit put together by the Tri-State Art Guild and hosted by Angel Mounds State Historic Site. The shows theme centers around the use of light. Tri-State Art Guild
August 7:6th annual "Bluegrass and Barbecue" Concert-Angel Mounds’ annual Bluegrass and Barbecue concert, part of the Music at the Mounds concert series, returns for its 6th year! Come join us for food, fun, and music! The area’s best bluegrass artists will perform throughout the afternoon and keep on pickin’ into the night! Barbecue plates, as well as additional food and beverages will be available for purchase. Coolers are permitted after inspection. No alcohol is permitted on the grounds. Visitors should bring their own seating to this family-friendly occasion, which will be moved indoors in the event of rain. Event begins at 3:00 p.m.
Sept. 24 - Sept. 26:28th annual "Native American Days" - Angel Mounds' paramount event is back again for its' 28th year! A weekend of fun will include a dance circle, Indian market, as well as numerous demonstrators, games, activities, and food vendors. Come out and join the fun! See Photos!
Oct. 3 – Dec.10:"Community Show" - The Community Show is an exhibit put together by the Tri-State Art Guild and hosted by Angel Mounds State Historic Site. Tri-State Art Guild
Oct. 15 and 22: "A Night at the Museum" Halloween Party - Returning for its 5th year, Angel Mounds annual Halloween party is night of fun for all ages! Due to popular demand, Angel Mounds is proud to offer the event for two separate nights of spooky fun! The party will feature games, activities, trick-or-treating through the Haunted Village, and a haunted hayride. The party starts at 7:00 pm. Admission is $5.00.
